A couple weeks back, my husband wanted to treat me to a weekend free of stress and worries. While we can't afford to run away to the seaside or go to a resort, he did manage to make a really wonderful weekend happen. First, on Sunday, we went up to visit my family and then hiked around in the woods. We never quite made it to Lovers' Leap - our original destination; but we did have a fun time and discovered the biggest oak tree I've ever seen!
We headed off investigating this suspiciously civilized tree in the woods.
Passed by a burnt out reminder of the past.
And spotted this giant looming in the distance.
Isn't it impressive?
Of course, my monkey of a husband decided the tree had to be conquered.
He didn't really get too far before giving up.
I was content just to squish myself in and not flip over.
It had no branches, just stumps where the branches had once been. This particular spot looked to be fairly new.
It's corresponding branch was huge!
It disappeared off into the distance and since it was still wet and slippery, I decided not to follow it.
"I'm innocent dear, I wasn't trying to climb the tree again."
The trunk of the tree was massive!
This is the backside of the tree.
And the front side.
And now he's off trying to climb it again.
He almost made it before the bark brought and dropped him.
He vowed to return with rope and climb it again.
Isn't he cute? The tree, I mean. *winks and grins*
