February 19th dawned cloudy and cold, with rain sputtering out of the clouds overhead. Bundled up warmly and basking in the lovely weather {while my husband shivered and looked like a bear that wanted to go back to sleep}, we headed off to work at the store.
About mid-morning to noon, the rain started really picking up and spitting snow out. So I grabbed my phone and stuck my head out the door.
The ground was very wet and puddles sprang up out of nowhere in minutes.
The sky was still cloudy and dark.
And you can't see it in this picture because my cell phone's camera is terrible, but snow was being blown around.
It smacked into the windows and slowly slid downwards.
This window was obviously taking the full force of the rain.
Aha! There is the snow!
And then, before our eyes, it started to come down and stick to everything.
Even the trees in our yard.
And then we kinda started debating whether we should close up early or not. Low snow should never be trifled with and this was pretty low snow at around twenty-five hundred feet.
About forty-five minutes or so later, we started noticing that buses, cars and especially big trucks were pulling over to chain up or getting off the freeway altogether.
So, convinced of the storm's seriousness, we bundled back up, closed the store early and braved the weather.
It was very cold and exciting.
I was loving it and yet very much on edge due to lots of past experience with the weather.
It was still gorgeous and breathtaking.
It was "slushing" - a mixture of snow and rain. Makes for very bad driving conditions.
Thankfully my husband drove very slowly and safely.
The freeway was pretty empty by then.
And we took the back-way home. We arrived safely and were able to enjoy the weather in the warmth and security of our own abode.
