First Anniversary Adventure

This past July, on the 28th, my husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary. We'd looked forward to that momentous occasion for months and carefully planned our gifts to each other. My husband, who loves planning special events for just the two of us, had several ideas up his sleeve for our special day. We hit a small bump with the fact that he had to work on the day itself, but since it was a Sunday, I'd already planned to spend the day with him anyway so we weren't too worried about that. We would just have to have dinner on a separate evening.

With the help of my sister, my husband was able to sneak a box of See's Candies to our family store the day before our anniversary. Unfortunately for him, they had melted a little from the summer heat. They were still tasty though.

He also bought me a bouquet of lovely white roses.

I stuck some of our sunflowers fresh from our garden in the vase with the roses and marveled at the effect they created together.

The evening before our anniversary, we presented each other with our gifts. One of his from me was a bar of chocolate.

The sweethearted man had gone and bought me a gorgeous dress! Obviously, the first thing I did was to spin around in it.

It fit beautifully and was very comfortable.

The best part about it was that it could be comfortably worn throughout the majority of my pregnancy. I wore it very often as my tummy filled out, though once I hit the final month, wriggling into the tightening dress became too much of a chore and it now hangs in the closet, patiently waiting for me to pop the baby out so I can wear it again.

My main gift to my husband was a set of rubix cube cuff-links. He was very surprised and loved them. He still wears them to church often and for special occasions.

As much as we were anticipating our anniversary, we weren't too thrilled by the twist we got thrown at the last minute. On the way home from work the day of our anniversary, tired but looking forward to getting dressed up for a romantic dinner the following evening, the left front tire suddenly blew out on us on the last turn of the freeway before our exit. It was a little scary and really rather inconvenient. Our jack wasn't tall enough to raise the van up to change the tire, so my Dad and sister had to drive down and rescue us. By the time we got home, our pizza was cold and we were definitely tired. We ended up not going out to dinner the following evening. But my parents, a few days later, took us out to our favorite family restaurant for a double-date/anniversary present which, though not what we'd originally pictured, was quite fun and enjoyable.
