The Cabin

During mid-November, we unexpectedly but happily moved from our cramped trailer {which was also getting very cold} to a cute little cabin about fifteen minutes away and off the mountain. The previous tenant had smoked a lot, so the first thing we had to do was repaint the entire cabin. We took a few days off from our family store and got to work. First we threw away all the junk left behind, then put drop clothes down and discussed which colors should go where.

We did the bedroom first and painted the walls a yummy chocolatey beige color that is soothing and warm. The next day Matthew painted the trim blue and the ceiling a rosy color. This picture shows you the far left hand corner when you first walk in, where our bed and the closet area are.

This is the other side of the bedroom where the heater, my little bookcase and the chair that will shortly be my nursing station are. Off to the left in the other corner of the room {opposite from the last pictured corner} is where the dresser and TV are.

You can kinda see the dresser in the right side of this picture.

Anyway, back to painting. We painted the bathroom a lovely light green color. The trim is still pending; I want to do blue at the bottom and red everywhere else. The ceiling we decided to leave as is. We put the cabinet with the glass door in next to a dresser that was already in the cabin and have extra clothes, towels, the baby's clothes and medicine stuff in them. Our laundry hampers are also in the bathroom, and we have a small shower off by the toilet.

Matthew later added some pictures to the bathroom walls for decoration.

This is the wall of the bedroom across from the closet. We hung our stockings there for Christmas.

Through this doorway is the kitchen.

I painted the cabinets a lovely pinkish purple shade and he painted the wall red, the ceiling white and the trim blue {which was finished after this picture was taken.

It's a pretty good sized little kitchen and I quite like it.

We stuck our small tree by the pantry and the front door.

Here is a better shot of the front door. My husband was very pleased with his work when finished with it.

This is the wall above the table between the fridge and the bedroom doorway.

And this is our little card table. It's a bit messy because I was getting ready to bake cookies that day.

One of the minor setbacks to our new living quarters is that the oven doesn't work. The stove top does, so we stuck our small conventional oven thing inside the non-functioning one and use that for now. There is a replacement stove waiting to be put in, but the guys haven't had time to do it yet.

These spice racks were originally over by the stove, but we moved them. I put the baking spices on top and the regular cooking ones down below. We spent Thanksgiving week moving our stuff into the cabin and when we were all finished, the effect {as you can see} is quite a cozy one. This'll be our little baby's first home when she's born.
